Can I run the flares while charging them from an portable USB lithium ion battery pack?

Yes! For extended rides or trips without access to a charger, you can use a portable USB lithium ion battery pack (just like many people carry to charge their phones on the go). Orfos flares will be able to run while charging giving you as much runtime as you could possibly want on high while plugged in via micro usb cable when riding. This is effectively the same as carrying extra batteries if that is important for the duration of your rides. Last updated: Sun, Nov 2 2014 11:13 am EST

Up to 300 or 500 Lumens! Is that too bright?!

If the optics were focused like a flashlight, this much light would be incredibly painful for any pedestrian/car that happens to get caught in your overly focused 10degree beam. Additionally, a focused beam doesn’t allow for anyone to notice you outside that narrow beam. This is how many other bike lights are designed and it is the opposite of what we have designed for. Overly powerful focused beams do very little to increase your own visibility. By diffusing and spreading the high quantity of lumens throughout the custom optics in our lights, you will end up with a vibrant and intense glow around you visible from any angle. These lights are designed to match the light quantity and light distribution of car lights. Since we share the road with cars at night, we need to match the illumination they have so that we can be best noticed on the road. A modern LED car tail light can be up near 300 Lumens with no focused beam. However, Lumens are only a measurement of total light output (not intensity). The Flares are actually more intense than a car tail light since they are smaller, but still have the same amount of light. Daytime LED running lights are less standardized in terms of their Lumen quantity, but with High mode one, your bike will appear much like a modern car on the road during the day or early evening. Then at night, Medium or Low will provide longer run times since eyes take in more light when dilated. Last updated: Mon, Oct 27 2014 8:13 pm EDT

Will the flares fall off if I ride on a bumpy road or hit a pot hole?

NO :) This mounting system is so incredibly strong you won’t believe it until you see it! The magnets are N52 neodymium which is literally the strongest magnet produceable. No consumer products use N52 since it costs a premium, but since the lights are designed to be compact in volume but also strong in hold strength, N52 was the only way to go. If your bike fell off a cliff, your lights would still be attached, but please don’t go ruining your beautiful bike to test this! Last updated: Sun, Nov 2 2014 11:19 am EST

How far does the front white flare shine down the road? and where should I mount the white flare?

Since the flares are diffused to 360 degrees, they will put a lot of light out a few feet in front of you all around you much like flood lamp. For those that ride in the city where there is frequent illumination from street lighting or other sources, there will be no issues. However, for those that ride fast at night in suburbs that have no street lights, it would be ideal to have another throwing headlight mounted to your handlebars to put light farther down the road, and ensure you can see oncoming obstacles early enough. Since the white flare is designed to mount to your bike’s head tube or forks, you shouldn’t have any issues pairing it with another headlamp. The Flares are “to-be-seen” products that increase your visibility by letting more drivers from more angles see you. Last updated: Sun, Nov 2 2014 11:13 am EST

Shipping Updates
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Current Estimated Shipping Date: January 2015

Manufacturing was delayed a few weeks due to magnet production delays. Our magnets are so high in quality, their production time is a little higher as well unfortunately... All backers should expect their shipments to be sent in January.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
